'Trial separation' for Sneaky Sound System's Connie Mitchell and Angus McDonald

SNEAKY Sound Method singer Connie Mitchell may be about to embark on a split with her musical husband.
However, that shouldn't be seen as adding fuel to current rumours about her bedroom activities with females.
"Sorry ladies," Mitchell clarifies. "It was misconstrued. I place my foot in my mouth sometimes. I meant to say I like lesbians and gays, however it came out as I personally like lesbians and gays.
"I certainly admire ladies, I'll sit there and check them out in the beach, I am all for a fairly lady. But that's exactly where it ends."
For Mitchell, 2012 is really a transitional year. She will finish touring Sneaky Sound System's inspired third album From Here to Anywhere then move to LA to embark on a solo career.
Her Sneaky companion Angus McDonald is not worried. Indeed, he pimped out his band wife for some enjoyable on the side.
"He really planted the concept Beats Studio," Mitchell says. "I'd showed him some stuff I'd written he liked. He said I should maintain it to get a solo album.
"He had began working with Van She on the side following that. He said he was feeling not very challenged in Sneaky - that is an awful way to feel. For me every night is really a challenge."
However Sneaky aren't more than - they are just about to possess a hiatus following five years of practically non-stop touring and recording.
"It'd be crazy not to continue performing Sneaky, Angus and I've such an excellent songwriting partnership. That's very hard to come by so quickly," Mitchell says.
"It is really a marriage of sorts. There is definitely no divorce, but maybe a trial separation."
If McDonald's loyalty to Mitchell was in doubt, he dispelled that earlier this year when Sneaky supported Kanye West on his Big Day Out sideshows.
Mitchell, who has sung on a number of West tracks such as Flashing Lights Dr Dre Headphones, was not asked by the rapper to stick around and perform on stage with him. And contrary to current reports of a romance, she has only ever made stunning music with West in the studio.
At a penthouse exactly where West had invited Mitchell to record once more, a slightly tipsy McDonald stood up for his friend.
"He stated to Kanye, 'Hey man, why didn't you get Connie as much as sing with you?' " Mitchell recalls proudly.
"Kanye said, 'I possess a million issues to worry about. I don't require a million and one'.
"That was good of Angus. We did not wind up recording something that night either. By that point it was midnight and I'd been on standby to get a few hours ... that is how he rolls."
It's a globe of waiting Mitchell is about to expertise first hand and complete time when she relocates to LA.
"Every time I see those (hip-hop) guys or their managers Beats By Dr Dre, they say, 'If you had been in LA, you'd be singing on so much stuff'," she says.
"It's a scary prospect to leave somewhere you're comfy in like Australia. I live inside a good home. I am surrounded by good things, I have a great group of friends. I get to do shows and people appreciate my singing.
"I could do that until I was 60 and then do my 'I'm never going to tour again' tour. But do I really want that in life or do I want to play in the major leagues? It's truly scary, but I believe it has to be done."
Mitchell has a vision for her solo material to become much more "edgy and esoteric" than Sneaky. Future R&B is a catchphrase. "That doesn't mean it's R&B - Kate Bush singing more than R&B could be Future R&B Dre Beats, but it's not R&B," she says.
All of this means Sneaky Sound System's tour next month is their last Australian jaunt to get a while. And they're going out with a costly bang.
"We're not making any money on this tour, it'll go all into the production," Mitchell says. "We want Cheap Beats By Dre to become an extravaganza.
"We want to get back to when you went to a concert and went, 'Wow, that was amazing'. Before individuals lip-synched and produced it look like a stage production of Rent."
