Pop idol Taylor Swift has accepted the offer of a date from Kevin McGuire, a Stratford teenager who's battling cancer. However the singer says she cannot attend McGuire's prom so she's invited him to a country-music awards show instead.
"Kevin, I'm so sorry but I won't be able to make it to your prom," Swift said in a message posted to her Facebook page this afternoon. "But I was wondering beats by dr dre, the ACM (Academy of Nation Music) Awards are coming up. Would you be my date? Adore, Taylor."
McGuire beats headphones, an 18-year-old senior at Sterling High School in Somerdale, has attracted tens of thousands of Web supporters in his bid to bring Swift to the June 1 prom. The country-music ceremony is to be held April 1 in Las Vegas.
McGuire did not require to check his calendar to provide an answer.
"Obviously I stated yes Dr Dre Beats," said McGuire, who's currently being treated at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. The country-music occasion "is a lot much better than the senior prom."
At the same time Dre Beats, he acknowledged, "I'm sick and I am not certain if I am able to."

"The community has been very supportive of me," stated Kevin McGuire, who initially was diagnosed as a 13-year-old in January 2007 and who appeared to have beaten the illness in April 2010.
Swift, 22, has not but commented concerning her invitation, but Victoria McGuire's opinion is clear.
"Nothing, and I mean nothing, brightens Kevin's day more than Taylor Swift," she notes on the Facebook page. "Kevin deserves over anyone else a special occasion in his life and the one thing he desires would be to go to prom with Taylor Swift!"
The prom is set for June 1, McGuire's birthday. Based on Swift's website, she has no events scheduled for that day.
The Facebook and Twitter followings are just the starting of support for McGuire, who presently is hospitalized. At Sterling, several seniors are promoting T-shirts and sweatshirts having a Superman logo on the front, and the message, "Team Kevin. We assistance our Superman" on the back.
McGuire has been accepted to each Rowan University in Glassboro and St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia. He plans to study psychology in college, and then counsel children with cancer after graduation.
"Everyone right here loves Kevin, and numerous of our students have known him for years," said Bill Scully, McGuire's guidance counselor in the Somerdale school. "To see his dream come true would mean a great deal to them."
